Dora is a writer. She is convinced that marriage hinders women in their freedom. Just before the birth of their son she marries Bertrand.
Together they found a school that is based on their ideas for a modern society.
They split up when Bertrand has an affair with the governess.

Dora meets Griffin. Together they have two children. All her life Dora is an activist for women’s emancipation and the peace movement.
